What we experience in South Florida's National Parks is shaped by water

South Florida has the privilege of having not one, nor two but three national parks and one national preserve in our backyard. There is no other area in the state with this concentration of protected land.

Water is the common theme among all of them. It is everywhere: in the swamps, in the bay. At the same time precious and prevalent, it defines South Florida's residents and their relationship with their surroundings.

To mark the 100th anniversary of the creation of the National Park Service, WLRN explores the relationship between South Florida and our three protected areas: Everglades National Park, Biscayne National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve.
